“…the honour of kings is to search out a matter. ”
Proverbs 25:2

Here is the king, the height of greatness for mankind. The king is the ultimate and highest authority of a land and people. The pinnacle power of any place, the top of Jacob’s ladder here on this Earth, if you will.

Those who have attained this grace are in the company of legends, King David, and King Artaxerxes, King Saul, and King Napoleon, great men of renown. Men of both tall and small stature, some with stone hewn character that no man could crack. Others with water formed wisdom draining into the deepest darkest crevices of history.

What is the honor of the royal house? His honor is to search out a matter.

If the searching of any such thing be the honor of kings, surely that honor would be loftier still for the pauper and peasant?

Aspiring pupils of the throne search far and wide for a jewel of knowledge that no other has possessed. Hoping that the king would be willing to trade a founded fortune, or a peculiar stone for the beggars long-sought, legacy-sifted secret.

Our detectives magnify the dark, small places, unscathed by mankind for that glass slipper that has eluded our partner in the dance of folly. Twirling about Holmes catches a glimpse of his Moriarty, who whispers like a toddler “Catch me if you can.”, to his companion in crime.
Once the Feds have caught that top-tier con-artist, they offer the scoundrel a high paying career comforter to nestle under, until the crisp crawl of death grips the goon.

We search for love. We search for single-celled life. We search for destiny. We search for a bargain.
We search and search to search for it is honorable! Is it not?

“The glory of God is to conceal a thing:…

…But…

…the honour of kings is to search out a matter.” Proverbs 25:2

The God of Heaven and the man of Earth are different

We spend so much time searching for the Mysterious God that we miss how to be more like Him. We complicate, we uncover, we show, without shame, our nakedness. Foolishly thinking that is honorable.

We cry out, “Look at me!”, “Look what I have done!”, “I am Alexander the Great!”, “I am James the Just!”, “Consider MY Accomplishments! Uncover my GREATNESS!!”

The Lord breathes faintly, “Come covering Cherub, hide My visage.
Arch-angels conceal Me.”

We donate to charities and demand “Put my name be on this building so that all may know that my sacrifice, built this building. Know that this is the house that I built.”

God says do not let even your left hand know what your right hand gives.

Our friend, or kin, or spouse is doing something they shouldn’t be and we know that person closely. We know when something is amiss. So we dig and dig until we uncover. Thinking that searching is honorable, because I, their close love, reveals their sin they will change. Instead of concealing the shame we iron it to their flesh. In love, of course.

What does the Father do to the prodigal son once he returns from riotous living, having wasted his inheritance?
Does He search his person? No, He covers his scars with fine clothing. “Nothing to see here.”

Does He make him give account for all he has squandered? No, He puts a ring on his finger covering his poor estate. “No my son is doing just fine, financially he is, well look at this ring!”

Does He make him sing for his supper? No, He holds a feast in his honor, covering the unknown nature of His son’s return. “We’ve been waiting for you son. You’re just in time for the feast in your honor.”

“It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.” Proverbs 25:2
